I have always been around home birth, with many friends and family members having babies at home while I was growing up, and I always wanted to have my babies at home. I didn’t know how that would work out since I lived in Indiana at the time. I began contemplating becoming a midwife while volunteering on the post partum unit of our local hospital. After moving to Michigan in 2004, I learned that most of the women in my church had their babies at home with Patrice. I met Patrice and asked what to do toward becoming a midwife, and began reading and studying. I came to her birth classes and started sitting in on some appointments at Patrice’s in December 2005. I went to my first birth in May 2007 and decided I definitely wanted to do this! I started an official apprenticeship with Patrice in March of 2008. I believe birth is a normal, wonderful event and should be cherished and respected as something beautiful and holy. I trust that birth works because I have confidence in the God Who created mothers and babies and perfectly designed the birth process.
My husband, Noah, and I live near Hesperia and are very excited to be expecting our first baby in April!
